Begin self-paced component package. Mentoring is the process of guiding someone to achieve a big-picture, long-term goal. The mentor directs the process of identifying the long-term goal, and assist in establishing the short-term goals needed to achieve it. Mentoring requires regular communication but is not a full-time job! Mentoring relationships are thought to have some form of beginning, middle, and end. The beginning phase generally is rapport building, and getting to know each other. The ‘middle’ is where the work gets done. The mentor guides the mentee/ protégé in the development of knowledge and skills. The ‘end’ occurs when the goals have been realized. Resources are available in the upper right hand corner of the course.
